The South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics

The Governor's School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) was founded in 1988 under the leadership of former Governor Carroll Campbell and Charles W. Coker, then-president of Sonoco Products Company. The Governor’s School educates scientifically astute leaders who are vital to the development of the economy of the state. The flagship residential program offers the most academically able students of South Carolina a learning environment that strengthens their ability to think critically, stimulates the joy of learning and fosters the excitement of discovery through scientific research.

Focusing on the full development of students, the GSSM combines a challenging curriculum spanning the humanities as well as science and mathematics, with a strong emphasis on character and ethics. It also serves as an educational resource, serving South Carolina as a model for academic excellence, enhancing science and mathematics education throughout the state through partnerships with public schools and school districts. Learn more.

The Darlington County School District

The Darlington County School District (DCSD) serves more than 10,400 K-12 students in 23 schools. In addition to regular classes, DCSD offers elementary and middle school magnet programs in the arts, sciences, mathematics and technology. Three high schools offer academic magnet programs, including an International Baccalaureate School, an early college degree program, and a top-ranked STEM school. Learn more.
